Shopee has announced an update to its return and refund policy, which will soon allow shoppers to return almost all products purchased on the platform should they change their minds about the items within 15 days of order delivery date. This is in line with the Shopee Guarantee period, and the revised Change of Mind (COM) policy will take effect on 19 March 2024.
According to Shopee, the update is made in a bid to improve user experience for both buyers and sellers on the platform. As such, it will now be made applicable to most product categories, with some exceptions being vouchers, digital products, swimwear, and innerwear – among other things. Here’s the full list of exclusions for your reference.
For context, the COM policy was previously enabled only for eligible products purchased via Shopee Mall merchants, or if a Marketplace seller agrees to accommodate your requests.
As customers, you can keep an eye out for items that are tagged with the “Free Returns” label to know if an item is covered under the COM return policy. In the event that you do want to request for a refund because you’ve changed your mind, just tap on “Return/Refund” for the item that you’d like returned (found in the “My Purchases” section), then select “Change of mind” as your reason:

Shopee also clarified that sellers will be responsible to bear both the forward and return shipping fee for their buyers’ return or refund orders, if the request is approved. This essentially means that you will also be reimbursed for the shipping fee that you’ve paid to have your purchase delivered to you, on top of the price paid for the item itself.

How about the conditions of the item? Since most of the IT item got their own genuine seals. If the seals already opened, is it still eligible for return and refund? Or the item packaging need to be intact as when the goods just received?
For returning IT items, the original seals should ideally remain intact for eligibility. However, even if the seals are opened, returns are still possible if the item is in its original packaging and meets their return policy criteria.
Any idea if sellers can choose to opt out for this free return?
Yes, sellers on Shopee can choose to opt out of offering free returns. However, this decision may impact their competitiveness and appeal to customers, as free returns are often seen as a customer-friendly policy that can increase trust and confidence in purchasing from a seller.
