BNM’s Shiny Surprise: Limited Edition Coins for ASEAN 2025
Author Avatar

If you have ever wanted to own a little piece of Malaysia’s history, here is your chance. Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has released not one but two limited edition commemorative coin series to celebrate major milestones in 2025, marking Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship and the 75th anniversary of the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

The coins are part of BNM’s latest numismatic release, and they are designed to shine with artistry, symbolism, and national pride.

A Coin That Weaves Stories Together

The ASEAN–Malaysia Chairmanship 2025 coin celebrates Malaysia’s upcoming leadership role in ASEAN. Its design takes inspiration from the idea of continuity, using a weaving motif that represents the strong and lasting connection between ASEAN nations.

On one side, the coin features the official ASEAN–Malaysia 2025 logo and a stylised fireball, symbolising energy and progress shared by all ASEAN countries. The weaving pattern continues on the reverse, reflecting unity and cooperation among member states. It is also the first Malaysian coin design where the artwork flows seamlessly from front to back, showing the skill and creativity behind the design.

For The True Collectors

There are several versions for collectors to choose from. The single sterling silver proof coin, with 92.5 percent purity, carries a face value of RM10 and sells for RM363, with only 1,000 pieces available.

For those looking for something lighter, the Nordic gold coin set, made of copper and other metals, is priced at RM24.20 per set and limited to 5,000 sets. A special set that includes both the silver and gold coins is priced at RM396, with only 1,000 sets minted.

Stats, Style, And Symbolism

BNM has also launched a commemorative series for the Department of Statistics Malaysia to mark its 75th anniversary. The design carries the theme “Statistik Nadi Kehidupan”, which highlights how data reflects the daily lives of Malaysians and the country’s growth over time.

At the centre of the design is a human hand surrounded by circular elements, representing the continuous flow of information and the connection between data and people. It is a fitting tribute to the role of statistics in shaping Malaysia’s development story.

How To Get Your Hands On One

Collectors can place their orders online from 12:00 p.m. on Friday, 7 November 2025 until 8:59 a.m. on Monday, 17 November 2025.

Each person can buy one sterling silver coin, one two-coin set, and up to five Nordic gold coins. Since demand is expected to be high, BNM will allocate coins through a fair process. In the event of oversubscription, a ballot will determine successful buyers.

For coin enthusiasts and history lovers alike, this is a rare opportunity to hold a piece of Malaysia’s story in your hands. These coins celebrate not only our role in ASEAN but also 75 years of national progress and achievement.
