Convenience store franchise FamilyMart is now pilot testing a fully cashless store concept in Malaysia, where customers can only pay for their purchases using cards and e-wallets.
While FamilyMart did not officially announce this effort, some customers have shared images of notices at some outlets stating that “We’re a cashless store” which “now only accept cards and e-wallet payment”. Accepted methods for cards include MyDebit, Visa, Mastercard, Amex, and UnionPay. Meanwhile, e-wallet payments include Touch ‘n Go (TNG) eWallet, ShopeePay, and GrabPay.
We reached out to FamilyMart for additional information, and were told that this is an ongoing pilot test run in selected outlets to test consumer sentiment. Meanwhile, FamilyMart outlets that are not involved in this pilot test will continue to accept payments made using cash, in addition to debit and credit cards, as well as e-wallet payments.
