The National Registration Department is providing free replacement of identification documents for individuals affected by the recent floods. This assistance covers documents that were lost or damaged and includes MyKad, birth certificates, death certificates, civil marriage certificates, citizenship certificates, and other official records issued by the department.
According to the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), Tropical Storm Senyar weakened into a low-pressure weather system after making landfall on the coasts of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan around midnight. The system is now crossing Peninsular Malaysia towards the South China Sea.
MetMalaysia stated that, despite weakening, rain cloud formation remains active. This may continue to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas, particularly in Pahang and Terengganu, until at least tomorrow. The department will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates if there are significant changes.
This marks the first time the department has observed a storm of this kind forming in the Straits of Malacca. Forecasts indicated rainfall between 200mm and 300mm in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and parts of Pahang, with conditions expected to ease by Sunday. Winds of up to 50km/h were also projected.
Rainfall over the past two days has also reached 120mm to 150mm overnight in parts of the Klang Valley and along the west coast. The downpour has caused flash floods and landslides in several low-lying and high-risk areas. Local authorities have opened temporary relief centres and are continuing evacuation and response work to support affected households.
The ongoing wet conditions, combined with the movement of the weakened weather system, have led to rising river levels and localised flooding across several states.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the government’s priority is the safety and wellbeing of the public. He noted that the Home Ministry and its agencies are working to ensure that Malaysians impacted by severe weather can access essential services, including the replacement of key identification documents.
He also said the government remains committed to delivering assistance in a timely and efficient manner during the recovery period.
To improve accessibility for affected residents, the National Registration Department has deployed mobile teams to flood-hit areas. These teams are activated once travel routes are confirmed safe, enabling communities to replace essential documents without making long or difficult journeys.
The free replacement service aims to reduce financial and administrative pressure on affected individuals, supporting them as they regain stability.
