Genting Malaysia Plans Entry Charge For Jalan Genting Highlands
Author Avatar

Genting Malaysia Bhd has announced that it will introduce a vehicle charge for users entering Jalan Genting Highlands. The company said it will share the full details once the implementation plan is finalised.

According to Genting Malaysia, the charge is intended to support the long-term upkeep of the 24-kilometre road, which it has maintained since the 1960s. Jalan Genting Highlands was privately built on steep, mountainous terrain to provide safe access to Resorts World Genting and several other highland destinations.

Rising Maintenance Needs And Safety Requirements

The company said the road experiences heavy daily usage, which contributes to significant wear and tear. Continuous maintenance, slope management, and safety works are required to keep the route safe for all road users.

Genting Malaysia noted that maintenance costs have increased over the years and that it has been fully responsible for these expenses. The planned charge aligns with the “user pays” principle, which the company considers the most sustainable way to support ongoing repairs, upkeep, and unexpected incidents.

A Private Initiative On Private Land

Genting Malaysia emphasised that Jalan Genting Highlands is located on private land and forms part of a privately managed infrastructure network. The company said it places strong emphasis on safety standards, especially given the challenges of operating in a mountainous environment.

Teams are stationed at both mid-hill and hilltop locations to provide round-the-clock support. These include trained emergency response personnel who can respond to incidents and assist road users when required.

Supporting Tourism And The Wider Community

The company said Jalan Genting Highlands has played an important role in the growth of tourism in the area. The road has supported local businesses, created employment opportunities, and contributed to both the Pahang state economy and the national economy.

Genting Malaysia also highlighted that the road has enabled the development of other mountainside destinations beyond its own properties, helping shape a dynamic tourism landscape in Genting Highlands.

Further information on the upcoming vehicle charge will be provided once finalised.
