Foodpanda, Grab and Halo have contributed RM1,514,412.40 towards social security protection for 500 e-hailing drivers and p-hailing riders under the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).
Foodpanda contributed RM1 million, Grab RM500,000 and Halo RM14,412.40.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan announced the contribution during the Festival Mega iLINDUNGu at Strand Mall Kota Damansara.
Ramanan said 87% of workers are now contributing to the iLINDUNG scheme introduced last year, while 13% aren’t. PERKESO coverage now starts from a worker’s first task, once they meet the requirements for coverage.
Ramanan also urged workers to think about social protection for themselves and the family members who depend on their income, particularly if an accident leaves them unable to work.
The Festival Mega iLINDUNGu, which ran from Friday to Sunday, also provided PERKESO services for workers and employers.
A dedicated Opt-In LINDUNG 24 Jam counter allowed workers who had previously opted out to register for protection again. Visitors could also get advice, make payments and register with PERKESO.
The festival also brought 25 employers together through MYFutureJobs, offering 2,000 vacancies with salaries ranging from RM2,000 to RM12,000.
