Eligible individuals can keep an eye out for their Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) as the cash aid will be disbursed starting from today. This initiative is set to benefit 8.2 million recipients, namely those who are registered in the STR database to their respective eligibility categories.

In a statement, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said that the payment will be credited into bank accounts or channelled in cash through Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) in stages. Additionally, it highlighted that the Phase 1 payment has been increased to RM500 for recipients in the household category with an income of RM2,500 and below; in comparison, the maximum payment was set at RM300 last year.

Meanwhile, households with earnings of RM2,501 to RM5,000 are eligible to receive between RM100 and RM300 cash aid under the STR initiative. Senior citizens without spouses and single recipients, too, are entitled to RM150 and RM100 cash aid, respectively.

The public can check their eligibility status for the STR programme via the official portals that are hosted on the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) or MOF websites. If your name is not registered in the database, then you’ll be required to apply and complete a verification process based on the eligible STR category.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, meanwhile, emphasised that the government is sensitive to people’s concerns and will continue to enhance the STR initiative, in hopes that it will help the people in managing the rising cost of living.

“I understand the struggle that the people have to go through, and therefore, the government is making all efforts to ensure that the provided assistance will be substantially enhanced so that this bread-and-butter issue can be addressed, and no rakyat will be left behind under the MADANI government administration,” said Datuk Seri Anwar, adding that the government will prioritise and ensure that low-income households will continue to receive the necessary assistance.
