It's Now Easier To Appeal More LHDN Tax Decisions Online
Author Avatar

If the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) says you owe more tax than you think you should, you can now appeal more types of tax decisions through the MyTax portal instead of relying solely on the manual process.

Previously, online appeals were only available for additional tax bills issued after LHDN reviewed your tax return and decided more tax was payable. The service has now been expanded to cover several other types of tax assessments and notices, giving more taxpayers access to the online appeal process.

More Tax Disputes Can Now Be Handled Through MyTax

One of the biggest changes involves cases where LHDN estimates how much tax you owe because you didn’t submit your tax return, or submitted it after the filing deadline. If that happens, you can now file your appeal through MyTax instead of filling in paper forms.

The update also covers certain tax assessments issued after LHDN reviews an earlier assessment or completes a tax audit or investigation. Not every case can be appealed online, but if yours qualifies, you can now submit your appeal through MyTax instead of the manual process.

Taxes can be confusing, especially if you’re dealing with an LHDN notice for the first time. We regularly break down tax rules, filing requirements and LHDN updates because understanding what a tax notice means is often the hardest part. This latest update doesn’t change the appeal rules, but it does make the process easier for more taxpayers.

The Appeal Rules Stay The Same

While more appeals can now be submitted online, the rules for filing an appeal haven’t changed.

You’ll generally need to submit your appeal within 30 days of receiving LHDN’s decision. If you miss the deadline, you can apply for more time by submitting Form N.

LHDN said the manual appeal process will remain available while the expanded online service is being rolled out. To avoid delays or duplicate applications, you should only submit your appeal through one channel, either online through MyTax or manually at an LHDN office.
