The Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS) and SMART Tunnel have now also officially started their trial of the open payment system for toll payments. With this, motorists will be able to pay their toll fares at selected booths using credit and debit cards.

Those who travel along both these highways can now opt to use MyDebit, Visa, and Mastercard debit and credit cards to make payments instead of relying solely on Touch ‘n Go (TNG)-related options. Note, though, that the card terminals for the open payment system are currently only installed at selected lanes of these highways – since it is still in the testing phase at the moment – so do keep an eye out for the signages indicating these lanes if you’d like to give them a try.

Aside from KESAS and the SMART Tunnel, other highways and expressways that have already begun testing the implementation of the open payment system include the Maju Expressway (MEX), the Western Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal Scheme (SPRINT Expressway), and the Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong (LDP). In total, 12 highways are set to participate in this initiative and trial the system by September; other highways that are also expected to join in the effort soon include the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE), New Pantai Expressway (NPE), and the Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA).

Once fully implemented, the open payment system will cover as many as 31 toll plazas and 81 lanes.
