Maybank Introduces Contactless ATM Cash Withdrawals Using MAE App
Author Avatar

Maybank has introduced a new feature that allows customers to withdraw cash from selected Maybank automated teller machines (ATMs) simply by scanning QR codes using the MAE by Maybank2u (MAE) app.

This feature will allow customers to use ATMs without even physically touching the machine. Instead, they’ll just need to use the MAE app to initiate the withdrawal via the new ‘ATM Cash-out’ button. At launch, the contactless ATM cash withdrawal service is available at 998 ATMs nationwide, and Maybank has stated that it will be extended to all Maybank ATMs soon.

To begin using the contactless cash withdrawal service, activate the ATM Cash-out feature on your MAE app following these steps:

  • Launch the MAE app on your mobile
  • Select ‘Manage’ in the dashboard
  • Replace any of the ‘Quick Actions’ with ‘ATM Cash-out’, and save the changes
  • Tap on the ‘ATM Cash-out’, and then key in your MAE password
  • Key in the one-time password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number to complete the activation process

For security reasons, there’ll be a 24-hour cooling-off period before you can start using this feature. After the period is over, you can go to any of the selected Maybank ATMs, and scan the QR code on the screen using your MAE app. Authorise the app with a six-digit PIN or biometrics, and type the amount you’d like to withdraw. Your cash will then be dispensed via the ATM.

Additionally, Maybank noted that there isn’t a separate withdrawal limit for cash withdrawals via ATM Cash-out. “Cash withdrawals via your ATM card and ATM Cash-out count towards your existing daily limit,” it said, adding that customers may change their withdrawal limit at any Maybank ATM using their ATM card.
