More Students Now Eligible For RM400 FLYsiswa Flight Subsidy
Author Avatar

The Ministry of Transport has expanded the FLYsiswa flight ticket subsidy initiative, giving more students access to a RM400 digital flight voucher to help cover the cost of air travel. The update was announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook and applies to the 2026 implementation of the programme.

The expansion widens eligibility to additional categories of educational institutions, extending travel support to students who were previously not covered.

More Students Now Eligible For Flight Subsidies

Under the FLYsiswa initiative, eligible students receive a digital voucher that can be used to purchase domestic flight tickets from participating airlines, including Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Batik Air, Firefly, and AirBorneo.

The subsidy is aimed at reducing travel costs for students who need to fly home, particularly those studying away from their families.

Four New Institution Categories Added

The newly included categories are the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage, Malaysian Energy Department Training Institutions, government-linked universities, and state government-owned institutions of higher learning.

The Ministry of Transport said the expansion is expected to benefit an additional 6,278 students, while recognising the role these institutions play in developing the country’s human capital.

RM24 Million Allocated For Annual Programme

The FLYsiswa initiative has been allocated RM24 million as an annual Ministry of Transport programme starting from 2025. Around 60,000 students are expected to benefit each year.

The programme forms part of broader efforts to support student mobility, particularly for those travelling between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Strong Uptake Among Eligible Students

From 2023 to 2025, a total of 119,790 students, or 75.53% of the 158,600 eligible students, benefited from the FLYsiswa flight subsidy.

The initiative is positioned as a targeted measure to ease students’ travel costs while supporting family connections and overall well-being.

Voucher Can Be Used Across Multiple Flights

Students were reminded that the digital voucher is not limited to a single ticket purchase. Any remaining balance after a booking can be used for future flights, particularly when tickets are purchased early.

Students are encouraged to plan their travel carefully to make full use of the subsidy.
