Policyholders Given Until August To Reinstate Lapsed Coverage

The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA), and Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) have jointly announced an extension to the special reinstatement arrangement for lapsed or surrendered Medical and Health Insurance/Takaful (MHIT) policies and certificates. Policy and certificate holders now have until 31 August 2025 to reinstate their coverage, without needing to undergo a new medical examination or submit fresh health declarations.

Originally set to end on 30 June 2025, the extension offers a valuable reprieve to individuals affected by premium or contribution adjustments during the 2024 MHIT repricing exercise.

No Need For Medical Checks or Declarations

This industry-wide initiative introduces a simplified, no-hurdle reinstatement option for those whose MHIT coverage lapsed or was surrendered in 2024. By removing the need for medical checks or new declarations, the process is now quicker, easier, and more accessible.

The extended deadline also benefits those in rural or digitally limited areas, ensuring that every policy or certificate holder has a fair chance to regain their protection without added pressure.

The collaborative move by LIAM, MTA, and PIAM reinforces the industry’s commitment to long-term health security for all Malaysians. As MHIT continues to serve as a vital safety net, this measure ensures that more individuals and families can stay protected amid rising medical costs and economic challenges.

“The extension reflects the industry’s compassionate and forward-looking approach to long-term protection,” said the associations in a joint statement.

What do You Need To Do Before August 31st?

If your MHIT policy or certificate lapsed or was surrendered in 2024 due to repricing, you’re eligible for reinstatement under this arrangement. To restore your coverage, simply contact your insurer or takaful provider before 31 August 2025.

No new underwriting, no added conditions. Just a straightforward way to continue your medical protection with confidence.
