Puspakom plans to open seven days a week from November, with a further move to 24-hour operations targeted from January 2027, CEO Mahmood Razak Bahman said.
Whether the 24-hour rollout actually goes ahead depends on how the public responds to the seven-day extension, along with whether Puspakom has enough staff to support it. Puspakom has held talks with the National Union of Commercial Workers and the Puspakom Staff Union to gather their views on the new schedule.
The new arrangement is meant to give staff more reasonable working hours, between eight and 10 hours a day compared to the current 12, along with two rest days a week instead of one.
Most Puspakom branches currently operate from 8am to 5pm, Sunday to Friday, and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, though hours vary by state. Branches in Johor, for instance, follow the state’s Monday to Friday work week instead.
Wider operating hours could also reduce the need for GEAR, Puspakom’s RM150 priority booking service for next-day inspections, since standard slots may become easier to secure once branches are open every day.
