All express bus tickets purchased through online travel agents will now include QR codes, allowing passengers to board without collecting physical tickets at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan(TBS).
Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook said the change applies to tickets bought from February onwards and is aimed at easing congestion at ticket counters, following frequent public complaints about long waiting times before passengers can enter the departure area.
Loke said passengers with tickets that include QR codes can proceed directly to the departure area upon arrival at TBS, without the need to queue at counters for ticket printing.
He added that for tickets purchased earlier that do not have QR codes, passengers can still obtain a QR code online through the TBS website, ensuring they are not inconvenienced by the transition.
According to Loke, the introduction of QR codes is expected to significantly reduce congestion at TBS, particularly during peak travel periods such as Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
By cutting down the need for physical ticket collection, passenger flow within the terminal is expected to improve, especially during high-volume travel days.
Separately, Loke said the Ministry of Transport has instructed the TBS operator to improve the maintenance of basic facilities following user complaints.
He said issues involving escalators, lifts, and toilet cleanliness must be addressed promptly, stressing that passenger comfort is a priority, especially since a service charge is imposed on users of the terminal.
Loke also announced that the Bandar Sri Permaisuri branch of the Road Transport Department will be relocated to TBS in March.
The move is intended to improve accessibility for the public by consolidating transport-related services at the terminal.
