LHDN Mandates E-Filing For Tax Returns Starting Assessment Year 2024
Author Avatar

The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has announced that individual taxpayers must submit their income tax returns via e-filing starting from the assessment year 2024. This requirement also applies to partnerships, Hindu joint families, associations, and the estates of deceased persons.

According to LHDN, it will no longer accept manual or via paper forms, whether delivered at its counters or through the mail. Failure to comply with this directive may result in action under Section 112 of the Income Tax Act 1967.

Employers are encouraged to provide employee remuneration and deduction details through e-CP8D by 25 February 2025. The information submitted by employers will be used for pre-filling employees’ e-Forms, such as e-BE, e-B, e-BT, e-M, and e-MT for the assessment year 2024. Employees will also be able to review and amend this pre-filled data if necessary before signing and submitting their e-Forms, with e-filing commencing on 1 March 2025.

To assist taxpayers, the Tax Return Filing Programme for 2025 has been made available on the LHDN’s official portal. From the assessment year 2025, taxpayers in the categories of Companies and Limited Liability Partnerships (LLP) will be required to submit additional documents and information specified by the LHDN Director General under Section 82B of the Income Tax Act 1967. These must be provided within 30 days after the tax return submission deadline.

The additional documents include audited financial statements or management accounts, tax computation details, a detailed schedule of capital allowances and Schedule 3 charges claimed under the Income Tax Act 1967, and a complete calculation of any applicable incentives claimed.

To further assist taxpayers, the specific requirements for submitting these documents, as outlined under Section 82B, are available on the MyTax portal at https://mytax.hasil.gov.my.
