Kereta Api Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is adding eight KTM Komuter Northern Sector services between Butterworth and Padang Besar from 27 to 31 August 2026, covering the school holiday and National Day period.
The extra services are expected to accommodate up to 5,000 additional passengers a day, as KTMB anticipates passenger numbers to be about 30% higher than on normal days.
Four additional services will run each way between Butterworth and Padang Besar, bringing the total to 23 services per day in each direction.
That means there will be 46 services a day across the Butterworth-Padang Besar route, compared with 38 services under the regular timetable.
KTMB said the additional services are meant to give passengers more travel options during the busy period, particularly for journeys between Penang, Kedah and Perlis.
Across the five-day period, the extra services could accommodate up to 25,000 additional passengers.
If you’re travelling during this period, don’t just rely on the usual KTM Komuter schedule.
KTMB has advised passengers to plan their journeys in advance and check the KTM Komuter Northern Sector Special Timetable, which will be in effect from 27 to 31 August.
You can check train schedules and fares through the KITS Style app, KTMB’s official website or its official social media channels.
With school holidays overlapping with the National Day weekend, the extra services could make it easier to find a train that fits your plans but it’s still worth checking your preferred departure time before heading to the station.
