AmBank Group has won the Best Digital Account Opening/Customer Onboarding Initiative/Application in Malaysia Award for 2021, given by The Asian Banker Malaysia Awards.

The award is offered in recognition of the seamless and secure mobile onboarding process provided via AmBank’s mobile banking app, AmOnline. It allows customers to open an account anytime and anywhere through the electronic-Know Your Customer (eKYC) verification process, with comprehensive step-by-step in-app guidance to ease the whole procedure.

The group chief executive officer of AmBank Group, Dato’ Sulaiman Mohd Tahir said that this award is a promising step forward for the bank’s digital ambitions, given its focus on delivering customer-centric solutions by leveraging on its digital capability. This, in turn, helps it to remain competitive amidst the rapid changes of globalisation.

Meanwhile, the group chief operations officer of AmBank Group, Datuk Iswaran Suppiah highlighted the enhancements made to the AmOnline app, thereby providing a better user experience. “By leveraging on AmBank’s digital capabilities, we have further enhanced the AmOnline app to extend flexibility for our customers to facilitate their banking needs irrespective of time and space. We will continue to develop the app for a more intuitive banking journey, with security capabilities to ensure an overall smoother experience for our users,” he said.

The managing director for AmBank’s retail banking, Aaron Loo also chimed in with similar sentiments, saying that the bank launched its fully digital onboarding experience via the AmOnline app in May 2021. This eliminated the need to visit bank branches. “The development of the digital account opening was timely, amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic where we wanted our customers to be able to bank safely with us. We are truly honoured to be recognised for this feature,” he said.

The Asian Banker Awards is noted to be one of the most prestigious recognitions in the banking industry, given its rigorous and transparent criteria for innovation in retail financing within the Asia Pacific, Central Asia, West Asia, and Africa region. Other awards that were also presented in The Asian Banker Malaysia Awards 2021 include the Best Digital Customer Ecosystem Initiative/Application in Malaysia Award and the Best Financial Inclusion Initiative/Application in Malaysia Award.
