Following the Kampung Bahagia fire in Sandakan, Sabah, Bank Rakyat is offering affected customers a financing instalment deferment of up to six months. Applications run from 22 April to 30 June 2026.
The deferment applies to Housing-i Financing, Personal-i Financing, Vehicle-i Financing, Vehicle Hire Purchase-i, Micro-i Financing, Pawnbroking-i, and Credit Card-i. The account must still be active and not yet matured at the time of application. Customers who have previously received a payment deferment are still eligible to apply.
The deferment will not affect a customer’s CCRIS record. Monthly instalment amounts will remain unchanged after the deferment period ends, though the financing tenure will be extended by the number of months deferred. Any additional profit charged will not exceed the original agreed sale price.
For customers making payments through salary deduction or standing instruction, Bank Rakyat will refund any instalments collected during the deferment period.
Applicants will need to submit an official application, a copy of their IC, and a police report or official confirmation from the relevant authorities. Applications are processed within three working days of submission.
Individual and business customers can apply by emailing telerakyat@bankrakyat.com.my with the subject line: PERMOHONAN PENANGGUHAN BAYARAN ANSURAN PEMBIAYAAN UNTUK MANGSA BENCANA KEBAKARAN DI KAMPUNG BAHAGIA, SANDAKAN. Alternatively, customers can visit the nearest Bank Rakyat branch or call 1-300-800-800.
Credit Card-i holders should email kkredit@bankrakyat.com.my with the same subject line, visit the nearest Bank Rakyat Card Centre or branch, or call 03-2693 6880.
This is in addition to the RM1,500 compassionate aid and RM300 student assistance announced by the Federal Government for affected families and students.
