Hong Leong Islamic Bank (HLISB) has been awarded the IRBA Excellence Award 2020 for Islamic Digital Banking for being a frontrunner in innovating and shaping the Islamic digital retail banking landscape in Malaysia.
The award was given as part of the global Islamic Retail Banking Awards (IRBA), which are assessed based on an efficiency model developed by the Cambridge International Financial Advisory (Cambridge IFA).
“We are very honoured to win this award of excellence,” said Jasani Abdullah, CEO of Hong Leong Islamic Bank. “It validates the trajectory and effort of our entire team aimed at achieving our goal of providing an unrivalled Shariah compliant digital Islamic banking experience, combined with a human touch and empathy, which we believe adds value to the interaction and relationship we have with our customers.”

Jasani added that the bank has embraced a digital-at-core ethos that puts customers at the centre of the HLISB’s products and services offerings. Throughout its digital journey, HLISB has achieved numerous milestones in digital retail banking, such as its digital Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad initiatives, reimagining its high-profit savings account Pay&Save-i with a built-in multi-currency feature, and its simplified online zakat payments process through HLB Connect.
HLISB was also the first bank in Malaysia to offer a digital onboarding experience for Malaysians wanting to open a bank account through the Apply@HLB mobile app. Furthermore, HLISB was the first Islamic Bank to enable Term Investment Account-i via a digital channel in lieu of the traditional investment experience.
