HSBC Malaysia customers will soon have a couple of new steps when logging in and approving transactions. Anyone using HSBC Online Banking will need to enter their date of birth when logging in from 5 October 2026. Transaction approvals will then move to push notifications in the HSBC Malaysia App instead of six-digit codes from November.
HSBC Bank Malaysia and HSBC Amanah announced the changes on 7 September 2026, with the November changes being introduced in phases.

The way you start your HSBC Online Banking login will remain the same. You can still use your username, credit card number, debit card number, or account number.
Starting 5 October, you will also need to enter your date of birth before you complete authentication through HSBC Secure Logon.

HSBC is also introducing electronic Know-Your-Customer, or e-KYC, from November. This means you may need to photograph your MyKad or passport and record a short selfie video to confirm your identity.
The e-KYC process will apply when you register for HSBC Online or Mobile Banking, set up a new mobile device, or reset your six-digit PIN for the HSBC Malaysia App. If you are changing phones or have forgotten your PIN, keep your MyKad or passport nearby.

From November, HSBC will also change how transactions made through Online Banking are approved.
Instead of opening the HSBC Malaysia App to retrieve and retype a six-digit Transaction Verification or Re-authentication Code, the Mobile Secure Key will send a push notification to your phone.
The notification will show the transaction details, and you can approve or reject the request with a single tap. This means the transaction amount and receiving account will be visible on the approval screen before you confirm it.
HSBC advises you to check these details carefully and reject the request if anything looks wrong. The new approval process will be rolled out in phases, so you may not get it at the same time as other HSBC customers.
There is nothing you need to change about the way you log in before 5 October. However, HSBC recommends updating the HSBC Malaysia App to the latest version and logging in as usual.
You may also be prompted to set up a new six-digit PIN as part of the changes. If you need help with your account or run into problems with the new process, HSBC recommends contacting the bank directly through its support page, or the HSBC Amanah support page if you bank with HSBC Amanah.
