Malaysia’s tallest building has a new name, and Maybank now runs its head office from inside it. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially launched Menara Merdeka Maybank today, two days after the tower formerly known as Menara Merdeka 118 took on its new name.
The RinggitPlus team were at the inauguration earlier today, getting the exclusive scoop on what’s changed for Maybank and its customers.
Maybank’s registered head office address is now Level 70, Menara Merdeka Maybank, Presint Merdeka 118, 50118 Kuala Lumpur. The old head office on Jalan Tun Perak, which most people knew as Menara Maybank, is now called Menara Tun Perak.
Maybank occupies 33 floors of the new tower and has been moving staff there in stages since earlier this year. Maybank Islamic and Maybank Investment Bank are still shifting over. The bank now serves more than 17 million customers across 18 markets.
Maybank started in 1960, three years after independence, and the launch was timed ahead of this year’s National Day celebrations. The group is in its 66th year.
Maybank Group Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ir. Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said the building is more than a headquarters. “It symbolises the trust that generations of Malaysians have placed in us,” he said, adding that the group carries a responsibility to support the country’s economic progress. The ceremony was attended by ministers, senior government officials, regulators, board members, business leaders, clients, and staff.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, congratulated the group on the launch. Maybank was named World’s Best Bank for Corporate Responsibility and Malaysia’s Best Bank at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026.
SME Perkasa, launched in May 2026, is a RM1 billion financing commitment over 12 months. Eligible businesses can borrow up to RM1 million, with a six-month deferment on principal payments and disbursement within 48 hours of full document execution. It is open to existing Maybank SME customers across ten priority sectors including logistics, construction, food supply chains, agriculture, and courier services. Businesses outside those sectors can still apply, subject to assessment.
The Maybank Islamic Nadi Mastercard Credit Card-i, announced in July 2026, carries a fixed profit rate of 14% per annum with no annual fee and non-compounding charges. Most Islamic cards in the market use tiered profit rates that can reach 18% per annum, so the fixed rate is the point of difference. Applications open in October 2026 through the MAE app, Maybank2u, and branches.
If you are comparing this against what else is available, our Islamic credit card comparison covers the current profit rate ranges, and the full Maybank card range is listed separately.
Group President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Khairussaleh Ramli tied the move to the group’s ROAR30 strategy, which runs Maybank’s plans for customer service, digital tools, and its regional network. Under the same strategy, Maybank has set a target of mobilising RM100 billion in SME financing by 2030.
The relocation brings corporate teams that used to sit in separate buildings into one place. Maybank has not said what this means for branch operations or turnaround times, and the branches, app, and call centre you deal with are not part of the move.
The Kuala Lumpur Main Branch stays at Menara Tun Perak until Maybank says otherwise. Only the building name has changed.
If you hold an account there, you do not need to update or reopen anything. Maybank has said all banking services continue as usual. Do take note of the new building name so you are not thrown off when it appears on a letter or a signboard.
