Maybank has finally enabled support for Google Wallet, allowing its Mastercard and Visa credit and debit cardholders to now add their cards to the platform. With this, the bank’s customers will be able to tap into yet another convenient and secure cashless payment method for their online and in-store transactions.
On its website, Maybank shared the full list of cards that are compatible with Google Wallet, which includes – among others – the Maybank 2 Visa Gold and Platinum cards, Maybank Islamic Petronas Ikhwan Visa Gold-i and Platinum-i, and Maybank World Mastercard. Even the virtual Maybank Grab Mastercard Platinum and Maybank/Maybank Islamic myimpact cards can be added as well.
Maybank further noted in its FAQ document that for purchases above RM250, you’ll still be required to key in your card PIN into the terminal – just as you usually would when paying using your physical cards. Your Google Wallet transaction limit will also follow your card’s usual limits. Aside from that, rewards points and cashback for Google Wallet transactions made with your Maybank cards will be awarded as usual as well.
If you’d like to add your Maybank cards to Google Wallet, there are two ways to go about it: either through the Google Wallet app itself or the MAE by Maybank2u (MAE) app. If you’re doing it through Google Wallet, simply fire up the app, tap on “Add a card” followed by “Payment card”, then key in the details of your Maybank card to add it to the platform.
Meanwhile, those who prefer to add their cards via the MAE app can also do so by tapping on “View All Accounts” on your banking app, then “CARDS”. Select the card that you’d like to add to Google Wallet, and tap on “Add to Google Pay”. You’ll then be guided through a few more steps with some prompts, and then asked to authorise the update with Secure2u.
To celebrate this latest development, Maybank is currently running a campaign where you can get 100% cashback on your first Google Wallet transaction made with a Maybank Visa or Mastercard card. Set to continue until 8 July 2024, the cashback rewards will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis, capped at RM10 per eligible cardmember.
To note, Google Wallet first made its way to Malaysian shores back in 2022, with the initial support of CIMB Bank, Hong Leong and Hong Leong Islamic Bank, as well as Public Bank. Since then, the list of banks that allow its payment cards to be added onto the platform has been expanded to include several other banks, such as HSBC Bank and HSBC Amanah, AmBank, and Bank Muamalat.
