Maybank2u Registration Now Only Through MAE App From 18 Sept
Author Avatar

Starting 18 September 2025, customers who wish to create a new Maybank2u (M2U) account will need to register exclusively through the MAE app. This applies to individual and sole proprietor customers who use Maybank services but have not previously set up an M2U account. The change does not affect M2UBiz or M2E users.

Maybank explained that the update is part of its broader effort to improve online banking security and provide customers with a safer digital experience.

How The Registration Works

To begin the process, customers must first obtain a temporary M2U PIN. This can be done at any Maybank ATM by inserting a debit or credit card, or at a Maybank branch with the assistance of staff for those without a card. The temporary PIN is valid for forty-eight hours and can only be used once.

Once the temporary PIN has been created, customers can continue registration through the MAE app. They will need to enter the same debit card, credit card, or access number used to set up the temporary PIN. The temporary PIN is then entered in the app to proceed with account creation. Customers are required to choose a username and password, provide an email address, and set up additional security features including a security image, phrase, and questions to strengthen account protection.

Secure2u For Safer Transactions

As part of the registration process, customers must also activate Secure2u, the bank’s preferred method of transaction authorisation. Secure2u enables one-tap approvals for payments and transfers, replacing older verification methods. Maybank highlighted that this feature is designed to be both faster and more secure, enhancing the overall safety of digital banking.

Key Rules On The Temporary PIN

Maybank stressed that a temporary M2U PIN is valid for only one registration attempt. Customers cannot use the same PIN more than once and cannot hold more than one active temporary PIN at a time. For security reasons, the same card or access number used to generate the temporary PIN must also be used during the registration process in the MAE app. If the PIN expires, a new one will need to be created at an ATM or branch.

A Safer, More Consistent Experience

By moving all new registrations into the MAE app, Maybank aims to simplify the process and ensure stronger protection for customers. The bank encouraged users who intend to open a Maybank2u account to plan ahead by setting up their temporary PIN before starting registration in the app.
