Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Unifi TV have been confirmed as the official broadcasters of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Malaysia. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil made the announcement on 7 May 2026 at a press conference at Angkasapuri, Kuala Lumpur, confirming that the government has secured broadcast rights so you can follow the tournament through free-to-air and streaming platforms.

Unifi TV will carry all 104 matches live, while RTM will broadcast most matches either live or on a delayed basis.

Where And How to Watch

RTM will be available free-to-air through MYTV, Malaysia’s digital terrestrial television service, meaning you can watch on any TV with a DVB-T2 decoder or integrated digital tuner at no cost. If you prefer streaming, RTM Klik and Unifi TV both offer online access.

RTM’s coverage will include its Grandstand programme, produced from Angkasapuri and broadcast primarily in Bahasa Malaysia, with some segments in English. Updates will also be shared through the Selamat Pagi Malaysia morning programme.

Public Screenings And Sponsorship Plans

The government also plans to organise public viewing events at selected locations around the country, though Fahmi described these as modest in scale. Sponsors have been identified, with an official announcement expected soon.

On the government’s side, RM24 million has been allocated for the broadcast. Fahmi noted that corporate sponsorships will cover part of the remaining cost.

Late Nights For Malaysian Football Fans

The 2026 World Cup runs from 11 June to 19 July and is co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. This is the first time the tournament will be held across three countries, and the first to feature 48 teams instead of the usual 32, which is why the match count has increased to 104.

Most matches in North America will kick off during late-night or early-morning hours in Malaysia. If you followed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, you had relatively comfortable evening kick-offs. This time, with games hosted across three time zones in the Americas, many will start after midnight Malaysian time.

Delayed broadcasts on RTM could be useful if you are unable to stay up for live games on Unifi TV.

Anti-Piracy Enforcement Remains A Priority

Fahmi also warned against piracy of World Cup content. The government has stressed that enforcement against illegal streams will be strengthened during the tournament, and all parties involved in broadcasting or distributing the matches are expected to comply with anti-piracy regulations.
