As Chinese New Year approaches, banks in Malaysia are beginning to announce the availability of RM10 and RM50 notes to help customers prepare for the festive season. The tradition of giving angpows with crisp banknotes remains a cherished custom, symbolising prosperity and good intentions. Below is a list of banks that have confirmed their offerings, along with the details of how customers can obtain these notes.

UOB Bank is offering an online reservation system for fit-for-gifting RM10 notes. “Fit-for-gifting” notes are not brand-new but meet the quality criteria set by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for circulation and festive gifting. Customers can reserve these notes online and collect them at selected branches. Additionally, from 15 January to 28 January 2025, certain UOB ATMs will dispense RM10 fit-for-gifting notes. The branches with these ATMs include UOB Jalan Pudu, UOB Kota Damansara, UOB Jalan Othman, and UOB Puchong.

CIMB Bank has announced that customers can obtain new RM10 notes at selected branches nationwide. The service is available from January 17 to January 30 2025. You can find the full list of CIMB Bank ATMs that are providing this service here.

In recent years, there has been a noticeable scarcity of new banknotes, with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) encouraging the adoption of e-ang pows as a sustainable alternative. Despite this shift, the tradition of gifting physical angpows with crisp new notes remains a cherished custom for many.

Maybank

Maybank is also offering customers the convenience of withdrawing RM10 and RM50 fit-for-gifting banknotes at selected ATMs nationwide. These recycled fit banknotes meet BNM criteria for circulation and festive gifting, supporting sustainability efforts.

This service is available from 22 January to 28 January 2025. ATMs capable of dispensing RM10 and RM50 banknotes will be clearly identified with red standees for easy recognition.

For customers seeking further details, the list of branches and ATMs offering this service can be found here. Additionally, Maybank encourages the use of cashless alternatives through the DuitNow feature on the MAE app, allowing you to send e-angpows seamlessly to loved ones.
