Luno Ethereum Staking Now Certified as Shariah-Compliant

Luno has become the first regulated digital asset exchange in the world to offer Shariah-compliant Ethereum (ETH) staking. This landmark certification is designed to make cryptocurrency investments more accessible and aligned with Islamic principles, particularly for Muslim investors in Malaysia.

The Shariah-compliant Ethereum staking certification gives Muslim investors peace of mind that their participation adheres to Islamic values. To achieve this certification, Luno collaborated with Amanie Advisors, a respected Islamic finance consultancy registered with the Securities Commission Malaysia.

Scarlett Chai, Luno’s Country Manager for Malaysia, hailed the move as a step forward for Islamic finance in the country. “Malaysia has been recognised as a hub for Islamic financial services following its success in pioneering Islamic banking. Today, with the Shariah-compliant certification of Luno’s Ethereum Staking, we are pleased to announce that Malaysia has once again pushed the envelope, and is still at the forefront of shaping the Islamic financial services space,” she said.

Chai added that with Ethereum Staking being Shariah-compliant, the company aims to broaden its range of Shariah-compliant services and cryptocurrencies to ensure that everyone can invest with confidence.

Amanie Advisors’ founder, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar, emphasised the innovative intersection of technology and Shariah principles. “Staking technology creates another fingerprint in the contemporary Shahriah compliant world. Technology really makes Shahriah visible, fashionable, and impactful,” he said.

Luno’s Ethereum staking allows investors to earn rewards of up to 2.5% per annum, distributed weekly, without requiring technical expertise to set up. The service also removes financial barriers, with staking available from as little as 0.00001 ETH or RM1.

Staking operates on the proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, which secures cryptocurrency networks by enabling participants to validate transactions in exchange for rewards. To ensure reliability and minimise risks, Luno partners with trusted validator providers equipped with advanced monitoring systems and fail-safes.

Investors staking Ethereum with Luno benefit from a seamless and cost-effective process. While there are no fees to stake or unstake, a staking service fee is deducted from the rewards earned.

The Shariah-compliant Ethereum staking feature is live now, and users can start staking and earning rewards directly through the Luno platform.
