StashAway Launches Shariah Global Portfolios For Malaysian Investors

StashAway has launched its Shariah Global Portfolios, giving Malaysian investors access to global, Shariah-compliant investment opportunities. Designed to align with Islamic principles, these portfolios offer exposure to international markets while maintaining risk-adjusted returns that compete with conventional investments.

Designed for Diversification, Built on Shariah-Compliant ETFs

The portfolios are built using low-cost, Shariah-compliant exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that provide diversified exposure to global equities, US equities, emerging markets, global sukuk, and gold. This structure helps reduce over-concentration in any single asset or region, giving investors access to a more balanced global strategy.

Back-tested over the last five years, the portfolios have delivered annualised returns ranging from 7.3% to 14.0%, depending on the investor’s selected risk level. The highest-performing portfolio achieved an annualised return of 14.4% during that period.

Four Portfolio Options for Different Risk Profiles

Investors can choose from four distinct risk levels, ranging from moderate to very aggressive. These options are designed to match a wide range of investor preferences, whether the goal is long-term growth or capital preservation.

The portfolios are automatically managed, with asset allocations optimised to ensure efficient execution using ETFs with high liquidity and low tracking error. These features help keep costs low while maintaining alignment with Shariah guidelines.

Certified by Registered Shariah Advisors

All ETFs in the portfolios have been screened and certified by Masryef Advisory, a Shariah advisory firm registered with the Securities Commission Malaysia. The firm applies globally recognised Shariah screening methodologies, and it will continue to review the portfolios to ensure they remain compliant over time.

According to Khairil Anuar, Principal at Masryef Advisory, the certification process follows rigorous standards. “Every ETF in the Shariah Global Portfolios has been rigorously screened and vetted. Investors can have confidence that their portfolios remain Shariah-compliant,” he said.

Part of a Bigger Shift in Ethical Investing

The launch comes as more Malaysians look for investment opportunities that reflect both their financial goals and their values. Shariah-compliant products are gaining ground, not just among Muslim investors, but also among those seeking transparency and responsible financial planning. This shift is helping bring ethical investing into the mainstream, with digital platforms making access easier than ever.

These kinds of offerings, whether in physical gold or globally diversified portfolios, show how Shariah-compliant investing is becoming more accessible and flexible for everyday Malaysians.

Complementing Local Investment Products

StashAway says these global portfolios are designed to complement, not replace, core Malaysian investment vehicles such as ASB and EPF. While those products primarily offer domestic exposure, the Shariah Global Portfolios help investors diversify internationally without compromising their values.

Wong Wai Ken, Country Manager of StashAway Malaysia, added, “We want to make it easier for Malaysians to invest globally while staying aligned with their principles. Our Shariah Global Portfolios are designed to fill that gap by combining global access, compliance, and performance.”
