Luno Expands Offerings With Addition Of Two New Coins, Cosmos And Polkadot

Digital asset exchange (DAX) Luno Malaysia has officially announce the addition of two new digital coins to its existing offerings, namely Cosmos (ATOM) and Polkadot (DOT). With this, the platform’s customers are now able to trade in as many as 13 coins on the platform.

“We are thrilled to be the first regulated DAX to introduce ATOM and DOT to Malaysia. By widening our coin offering, we enable Malaysians to explore and diversify their portfolio in a safe and secure environment,” said the country manager of Luno Malaysia, Scarlett Chai, in a statement.

Chai also stressed that Luno always goes through a thorough screening process when adding new coins for customers, abiding by stringent technical, regulatory, and legal criteria.

With regard to the coins, Cosmos (ATOM) is the native token for the Cosmos network, which is a decentralised network that is sometimes referred to as “the Internet of blockchains”. With a focus on interoperability, scalability, and sovereignty, Cosmos seeks to bring together various blockchains (including decentralised applications and services) within a single interconnected platform. This has made it particularly appealing to developers, enterprises, and blockchain enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, Polkadot – which features the DOT token as its native cryptocurrency – is a protocol that is designed to allow unrelated and dissimilar blockchains to communicate with each other and operate seamlessly together (for example Bitcoin and Ethereum). Operating on a unique multi-chain architecture (meaning it can join different blockchains together), it enables developers to create customised blockchains (known as parachains) that are tailored to their specific needs, thereby unlocking new possibilities while fostering a more interconnected and efficient blockchain ecosystem.

To note, ATOM and DOT are two of five digital coins that Luno said it aims to add to the platform this year, subject to approval by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC).  Other coins that are already available for trading on Luno include major coins like Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), as well as popular alternative coins like Cardano (ADA) and Solana (SOL). The latest additions prior to ATOM and DOT were Avalanche (AVAX) and Polygon (MATIC).
