Malaysia can position itself at the forefront of this global digital transformation, Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim said following a productive meeting with Changpeng Zhao (CZ), founder and former CEO of Binance. The meeting focused on Malaysia’s growing ambitions to become a key hub in the digital assets and blockchain space.
Emphasising the country’s potential, Anwar noted that Malaysia has the opportunity to lead in the digital economy by embracing blockchain technology and the tokenisation of financial instruments. He highlighted the need for constructive and ongoing dialogue with key agencies and stakeholders to chart a path forward that encourages innovation while safeguarding financial stability.
Anwar welcomed continued engagement with national bodies including the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), and the Ministry of Digital. These discussions are aimed at exploring policy frameworks that support responsible innovation, align with regulatory compliance, and lay the groundwork for Malaysia’s leadership in Web3, fintech, and tokenised finance sectors.

The Prime Minister underscored that government leadership will be critical in accelerating blockchain adoption across various domains. Areas such as the digitisation of public infrastructure, the tokenisation of financial assets, and cross-border innovation initiatives were cited as key examples of where Malaysia could lead with purpose and vision.
According to Binance News, the meeting with CZ forms part of Malaysia’s broader strategy to attract global blockchain innovators and develop a regulatory environment that strikes a balance between technological advancement, financial security, and investor protection.
