Malaysia Launches National Blockchain Infrastructure

Malaysia has officially launched the Malaysia Blockchain Infrastructure (MBI), a landmark initiative that marks a critical advancement in the country’s digital transformation agenda.

Developed through a strategic collaboration between MIMOS Berhad, the national applied R&D centre, and MY E.G. Services Berhad (MYEG), a leading digital services provider, the MBI leverages Zetrix’s established blockchain technology to provide a neutral and trusted foundation for digital services and cross-sector innovation.

Dr Saat Shukri Embong, Acting President and Group Chief Executive Officer of MIMOS, emphasised the broader impact of the MBI on Malaysia’s digital landscape.

“MBI will drive competitiveness, positioning Malaysia as a regional leader in blockchain adoption and development, potentially attracting investment and highly-skilled talent. More importantly, it embodies digital inclusivity, making blockchain technology accessible to all Malaysians, regardless of their technical expertise,” he said, noting that the platform will also streamline resource aggregation across platforms, increasing liquidity and reducing trading inefficiencies.

The MBI is a central pillar of Malaysia’s National Blockchain Roadmap and stands as the country’s government-backed blockchain backbone. Its launch is expected to accelerate the adoption and development of blockchain technologies by providing a seamless, interoperable infrastructure that supports both public and enterprise use cases.

Built on Zetrix’s robust public layer-1 blockchain, the MBI enables cross-chain compatibility with platforms such as Ethereum, Solana, and enterprise networks, thus simplifying the development of blockchain-based services for businesses and government bodies alike.

By focusing on interoperability, security, and efficiency, the MBI allows developers and organisations to create scalable and user-friendly applications without being burdened by the complexities of diverse blockchain platforms. It is poised to support a wide array of use cases, including supply chain transparency, decentralised finance (DeFi), digital identity management, and asset tokenisation.

Services such as MyDigitalID are also set to benefit from MBI’s built-in verifiability and accessibility features, enabling more secure and reliable identity verification across borders and commercial services.

In alignment with the MADANI vision, which upholds the values of sustainability, prosperity, innovation, respect, trust, and compassion, the MBI plays a key role in reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a regional leader in blockchain innovation.

The platforms would enhance digital inclusivity by lowering barriers to entry, encourage robust public-private collaboration, and bolsters economic resilience by fostering trust in digital transactions.

Early adopters of the platform reportedly include industry players such as Masverse, Cokeeps, iTrace, and Heitech Padu. Stakeholders have highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between government, industry, academia, and innovators to further develop and expand the initiative.
