Sayang Green 2026 is a three-day sustainability showcase taking place from 16 to 18 January at IPC Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya. The initiative focuses on practical sustainability actions that are intended to be easy to adopt, accessible, and affordable.
Initiated and organised by 180 Degrees Brandcom, Sayang Green 2026 encourages Malaysians to make small, practical changes to everyday habits. The initiative highlights actions such as refilling, returning, and reducing waste at the source, shifting attention from awareness alone to everyday application.
The organisers frame Sayang Green within the context of increasing environmental pressure in Malaysia. Studies cited by the initiative show that Malaysia ranks highest among 109 countries for dietary microplastic intake, with plastic particles appearing more frequently in food sources, particularly fish,
which is a staple of the Malaysian diet.
Malaysia also generates an estimated 39,000 tonnes of solid waste each day and records one of the highest carbon dioxide emissions per capita in the region. The organisers point to these figures to show how everyday consumption and lifestyle choices contribute directly to environmental strain.
In response, Sayang Green focuses on practical actions that address waste and resource use at the source.
Among the partners involved is Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad, which is showcasing how virtual credit cards can reduce the need for physical plastic cards. By removing card production and delivery, virtual credit cards reduce material usage and associated carbon emissions while continuing to support everyday transactions.
Alliance Bank states that this approach integrates sustainability into existing banking behaviour through digital solutions, without requiring customers to change how they manage their finances.
Product and infrastructure partners also demonstrate applied sustainability. De Carton presents cardboard-based event structures that offer recyclable, modular, and reusable alternatives to conventional plywood setups commonly used at large-scale consumer events.
Sayang Green 2026 also applies sustainability principles to its event design and execution. The organisers calculated the event’s carbon footprint in accordance with ISO 14064-1 standards and recorded total emissions of 12.56 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent within the defined project boundary.
As part of its carbon management approach, the event uses cardboard-based infrastructure throughout. The organisers estimate that this design choice could reduce overall project emissions by up to three to four times compared with conventional plywood structures, mainly by lowering transport, construction, and disposal-related emissions.
During its launch, Sayang Green 2026 received formal recognition from ASEAN Records.
Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad was recognised for achieving the first consumer bazaar designed with environmentally friendly principles applied uniformly across all functional zones. De Carton was also listed for the first ESG consumer bazaar constructed using recyclable cardboard-based event infrastructure, planned around circular economy principles and supplied by a single provider.
According to the organisers, these recognitions reflect consistent sustainability practices across the planning, design, and execution of the event.
Sayang Green 2026 offers on-ground activations, workshops, and partner-led experiences that demonstrate sustainability in practice. These activities include battery return initiatives, refill-and-return concepts for household and personal care products, recycled plastic workshops, and showcases of clean energy and electric mobility solutions.
Partners such as Plus Xnergy, Elexer, Earthya, ZP, ReadyCare, NatureLoop, Gamuda Land, and Blueshark present specific sustainability applications across energy, consumption, urban development, and transport.
The organisers state that these activities aim to provide hands-on exposure to sustainability concepts that participants can apply in everyday life.
Sayang Green 2026 frames sustainability as a series of practical actions rather than a one-off campaign. By bringing together brands, financial institutions, and solution providers in a shared space, the initiative shows how sustainability principles can apply across different aspects of daily living.
The organisers emphasise realistic starting points that participants can adopt over time, rather than ideal or perfect outcomes.
