RON95 for RM1.99? Here's How Every Malaysian Can Get It
Author Avatar

You’ve probably heard a lot of chatter about the new Budi95 fuel subsidy, and let’s be honest, it can get a bit confusing with information flying around from all corners. Starting 30 September, eligible Malaysians will be able to buy RON95 petrol at just RM1.99 per litre. In this guide, we’ll walk you through what Budi95 is, how to know if you qualify (spoiler: you probably do!), and the exact steps to unlock that sweet RM1.99 per litre price at the petrol station.

So, What Exactly Is The Budi95 Programme?

In a nutshell, Budi95 is the government’s new way of giving out fuel subsidies directly to the people who need them – Malaysian citizens. Under this programme, if you’re eligible, you can buy RON95 petrol for just RM1.99 per litre. This is a big deal because the actual market price, which non-citizens and big companies will have to pay, is expected to be around RM2.60 per litre.

The government has given every eligible Malaysian a monthly quota of up to 300 litres of subsidised RON95. The programme officially kicks off nationwide on 30 September 2025.

Are You Eligible For Budi95?

Here’s the best part. According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the eligibility criteria are super simple. You automatically qualify if you tick these two boxes:

  • You’re a Malaysian citizen with a valid MyKad.
  • You have an active driving licence.

That’s it! No forms, no complicated registration. If you’ve got your MyKad and a driving licence, you’re in. Your income doesn’t matter. If you want to be extra sure, you can always double-check your status on the official Budi95 portal at https://www.budi95.gov.my.

The subsidy will be available in a few phases:

  • 27 September: For our police and armed forces personnel.
  • 28 September: For Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients.
  • 30 September: For everyone else who is eligible.

Just remember, this benefit is exclusively for Malaysians. Foreigners, cars with foreign number plates, and large companies won’t be able to get this subsidy.

Your Step-by-Step Guide To Claiming The Budi95 Subsidy

The way you refuel is about to change, but don’t worry, it’s just one simple extra step: verifying with your MyKad. Petrol stations have already installed MyKad readers at the pumps and payment counters. Here’s a breakdown of how it works, depending on how you like to pay.

Option 1: Paying at the Pump with Your Debit or Credit Card

If you’re a fan of paying at the pump, here’s your new routine:

  1. Start as Usual: Tap or insert your credit or debit card into the outdoor payment terminal.
  2. Choose Your Amount: Key in how much you want to spend or just select the “full tank” option.
  3. Verify with MyKad: Here’s the new step. Before the pump unlocks, you’ll need to insert your MyKad into the card reader on the terminal. This is to prove you’re eligible.
  4. Fill Up: Once your MyKad is verified, the pump is ready to go. You can start fuelling at the subsidised rate of RM1.99 per litre.

Option 2: Paying at the Counter

Prefer to pay the cashier inside? No problem, it’s just as easy.

  1. Verify First: Walk up to the cashier and hand over your MyKad for a quick verification scan.
  2. Tell Them What You Need: Let the cashier know your pump number and how much fuel you want.
  3. Pay Up: You can pay with cash or your card, and you’ll be charged the subsidised price.
  4. Start Fuelling: Head back to your car and begin refuelling.

Option 3: Using a Fuel App (like Setel or CaltexGo)

For the smoothest experience, a fuel app is the way to go.

  1. One-Time Verification: The first time you use the app after Budi95 starts, you’ll need to verify your MyKad within the app. It’s a quick, one-off process.
  2. Activate Your Pump: When you’re at the station, just open your app, confirm your location, and select your pump number.
  3. Pay and Go: Enter your fuel amount, confirm the payment, and the subsidised price will be applied automatically. This is perfect for those who want to save time and maybe even earn some extra rewards. Using a good cashback credit card with your app can help you stack up even more savings.

Option 4: Paying with Your Touch ‘n Go eWallet

Your TNG eWallet can also be used to get the subsidy.

  1. Find Budi95: Open your TNG eWallet and look for the “BUDI95” feature.
  2. Enter Your Details: Tap on “Buy Fuel” and confirm the station, pump number, and how much you want to refuel.
  3. Scan to Pay: When you’re ready to pay, just scan the QR code at the counter.
  4. Time to Fuel: Once your payment goes through, the pump will be activated, and you can start filling your tank at the lower price.

Final Things To Keep In Mind

To make sure you’ve got everything down, here are the key takeaways:

  • Your Quota: You have a 300-litre limit for subsidised RON95 every month.
  • E-hailing Drivers: If you’re an e-hailing driver, you’re exempt from this cap. More details on this will be coming soon.
  • MyKad is Key: Your MyKad is what you’ll use for verification. You don’t need to flash your driving licence at the petrol station.
  • You’re Already In: Don’t forget, there’s no need to sign up. As long as you have a MyKad and a valid driving licence, you’re automatically good to go.

Our Final Thoughts

And there you have it – your complete guide to the Budi95 fuel subsidy. While any new system can seem a bit daunting at first, the process is designed to be quick and painless. All it takes is a simple tap of your MyKad or a few clicks in an app to enjoy significant savings on your fuel expenses. This initiative puts money back into the pockets of everyday Malaysians, and by following this guide, you can be sure you’re ready to make the most of it from day one. Happy driving!

Hi there! Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, the Budi95 subsidy is only available to Malaysian citizens with a valid MyKad and driving licence. Permanent Residents (MyPR holders) are not eligible for the subsidised RM1.99 per litre rate, even if you have a Malaysian driving licence.

This means you’ll be paying the market rate when you refuel RON95 petrol.

Hope this clarifies things for you!
