Zurich General Takaful Malaysia has partnered with online pet insurance platform Oyen to introduce Asia’s first cat takaful plan, called Oyen Takaful Kucing, to address the increasing demand for takaful pet coverage. It offers comprehensive coverage of up to RM8,000 to help pet owners cover unexpected vet bills when their pet cats fall ill or get injured.

With contributions starting from RM319 per year (estimated at RM28 per month), the plan covers the cost of various clinical procedures and necessities, including vet consultation, diagnostic and laboratory tests, surgery and operating rooms, as well as prescription drugs. Here’s the list of benefits for your reference:

Aside from these benefits, the Oyen Takaful Kucing plan also offers a seamless submission, processing, and tracking of claims through Oyen’s AI-enhanced app – which simplifies the experience for pet owners. Additionally, pet owners can tap into Oyen’s extensive network of almost 1,000 vet clinics and hospitals nationwide for their cats’ medical examinations when necessary.

“We believe that this product aligns with the evolving needs of pet owners and supports our commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions. Zurich is proud to be part of this venture, and we look forward to making a meaningful impact on the pet insurance and takaful industries in Malaysia,” said chief executive officer of Zurich General Takaful, Shamsul Azman, adding that this ultimately ties back to the insurer’s brand campaign “Care For What Matters”.

Meanwhile, co-founder and chief executive officer of Oyen, Kevin Hoong said that this partnership marks a significant step in providing peace of mind and security to pet owners while respecting their faith-based principles. “With our new takaful offering with Zurich, a leading global brand, we look forward to helping more Malaysian pet owners afford high quality veterinarian care that is comparable to that of developed nations like the UK, Japan, and Sweden,” he said.

Prior to this, Oyen had also collaborated with MSIG Insurance to roll out medical insurance policies for pets. Another pet insurance that is also available in the market includes Etiqa’s and Petotum’s PAWer Insurance.
