Apple Malaysia Rolls Out Trade In Programme

Apple Malaysia has quietly rolled out a new Trade In programme for new device purchases on its official website. With this, you can now directly trade in a range of used Apple products for new devices, from iPhones to iPads, to Macbooks.

On its website, Apple indicated that customers can trade in their existing Apple devices for up to RM11,650 in credit, which they can then use to purchase new devices and gadgets from the tech giant. Even better, you are not restricted to a device-specific trade-in policy, such as having to trade in iPads to get credits that can only be used to purchase new iPads. Instead, you can trade in old iPhones for a new iPad, or an old Macbook to get credit for a new iPhone, and so on.

Based on the list provided, the oldest iPhone that can be traded in is the iPhone 6 Plus, which could give you up to RM150. Apple Watches, meanwhile, offer estimated trade-in values of up to RM1,950 (for Apple Watch Ultra), whereas iPads can bring in up to RM4,200 (for iPad Pro). If you’re trading in Mac devices, then you can get up to the maximum RM11,650.

Apple also clarified in its FAQ that the actual value provided will depend on factors like your device model, manufacturer, and condition (you do not need to return the accompanying accessories to get the full trade-in value). You can get an initial estimate by answering a few questions online, but this amount may be adjusted after you’ve sent in the actual device for confirmation and evaluation.

If you’ve decided that you would like to purchase your new Apple device through the Trade In programme, you’ll need to prepare your old device for the process. A preparation kit will be sent to you to guide you – usually in the same package from which you received your new device – and you’ll have 14 days to return your trade-in device to Apple upon receiving your new device (either by scheduling a courier pick-up or dropping it off at an eligible location).

“If you buy an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch, your credit will be applied to your original payment method up to the total purchase price after we receive your trade-in device and confirm that the condition matches what you described. For any remaining amount, you’ll receive an Apple Store Gift Card by email,” Apple further shared in its FAQ.

To note, Apple’s Trade In programme actually also comes with a recycling service, where you can recycle any Apple device (including devices from Apple-owned brands) for free. These include batteries, electronic products, and even packaging – so if you have accessories like chargers, cables, or cases that you no longer want, you can also send them to be recycled.
