STR Recipients Aged 40 And Above Already Qualify For Free Health Screenings

Malaysian Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients aged 40 and above are automatically eligible for PeKa Sihat, the government health scheme previously known as PeKa B40. Their registered spouses aged 40 and above qualify too. Eligible members don’t need to register. You can confirm whether you qualify on the official PeKa Sihat eligibility checker with your MyKad number and a few other details.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching reminded STR recipients about the scheme in Kulai, Johor, on 1 November 2026. She said the PeKa Sihat website also lists the private clinics that take part.

The Free Screening Checks Your Blood Sugar, Cholesterol And Kidneys

The health screening is done at a government clinic or a private clinic on the PeKa Sihat panel. The doctor asks about your health and your family’s health. You’ll also have your weight and blood pressure checked, and answer a few questions about your mental health. Women get a breast check, and men who are at risk get a prostate check.

The clinic takes blood and urine samples, and a lab tests them for your blood cells, blood sugar, cholesterol and kidneys. You don’t need to fast before the test, and you won’t pay anything for the check-up or the lab tests.

The screening takes two visits. On the first visit, the doctor examines you and takes the samples. On the second, the doctor goes through your results with you. Depending on your results, you may be referred to a government health facility. You may also be referred to Program Sihat Cergas, the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) healthy living programme.

Do note that PeKa Sihat doesn’t pay for treatment or medicine. If you choose to be treated at the private clinic instead of taking a referral, you pay for that treatment yourself.

Equipment Aid, Cancer And Transport Benefits Come With Conditions

Besides the free screening, PeKa Sihat has three other benefits for patients being treated at MOH hospitals. Completing the screening is the first condition for all three, but it doesn’t make them automatic. A doctor, specialist or medical social worker at the hospital has to apply on your behalf.

BenefitWhat You GetConditions
Medical equipment aidEquipment worth up to RM20,000Covers items like heart stents, artificial joints, hearing aids, pacemakers, lenses for cataract surgery and wheelchairsYou get the equipment, not cashAn MOH specialist applies for youApproval depends on the type of equipment

A New Benefit For Long-Term Illnesses Is Expected In 2027

Teo said the benefits funded by the RM80 million Budget 2027 allocation start next year. PeKa Sihat is run by ProtectHealth, a non-profit company set up under MOH. The company runs government health schemes through private clinics and labs. Under PeKa Sihat, ProtectHealth pays the clinic for your two screening visits, so you don’t pay anything.

ProtectHealth has said an extra benefit is expected from 2027 for selected members. The new benefit is meant to help people manage non-communicable diseases. These are long-term illnesses that don’t spread from person to person, such as diabetes and high blood pressure. The full details haven’t been announced yet.

PeKa Sihat is meant to get people screened early, before health problems become serious. However, ProtectHealth said in May 2026 that too few eligible people are coming forward for screening. By September 2026, 2.1 million Malaysians had been screened since 2019. Of the 328,302 people screened in 2025, 44.5% found at least one health problem they didn’t know they had.

Check Your Eligibility With Your MyKad Number

Go to the PeKa Sihat eligibility checker and enter your MyKad number along with the other details the page asks for. The page tells you whether you qualify. Your spouse can check with their own details, and if your parents receive STR, you can do the check for them too.

Next, find a clinic near you with ProtectHealth’s PeKa Sihat clinic finder, or look for the PeKa Sihat sticker on a clinic’s front door. Bring your MyKad on your first visit. Make sure you go back for the second visit too. That’s when the doctor gives you your results and any referral you need.
