Around 71,000 vehicle owners in Sabah who are eligible for an additional 100 litres of subsidised diesel have yet to apply for the extra quota.
Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak), said around 120,000 vehicle owners in Sabah are eligible for the additional quota, but only about 49,000 have applied so far.
The government is urging those who have not applied to register their vehicles and use the additional quota. It wants to assess the actual demand before deciding whether the BUDI Diesel quota should be increased further.
Mustapha said the existing 100-litre additional quota should first be fully utilised so the government can assess the actual need. Any further increase to the quota will only be considered after the government has a clearer picture of demand.
The government has also received requests from traders and companies to increase the diesel quota for certain categories of vehicles. These requests are being considered by the Ministry of Finance, while the government is also reviewing feedback on how BUDI Diesel is being implemented.
If you own an eligible diesel pickup truck or jeep in Sabah and have not applied for the extra quota, you can apply for an additional 100 litres of subsidised diesel each month. This would bring your monthly quota from 200 litres to 300 litres. Eligible owners can apply through the BUDI MADANI portal or at an LHDN branch, and there is no application deadline for the additional quota.
Meanwhile, the government is expected to announce improvements to BUDI Diesel within one to two months, particularly involving the application process and eligibility requirements, according to Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
