Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) will be holding an online auction of ringgit banknotes with special serial numbers from 11 to 18 April 2026. The auction will be conducted through its appointed auctioneer, MNP Auctioneers (Central) Sdn. Bhd. A live bidding session will take place on 18 April at 11am.
This round will feature selected sets of the first ten banknotes from chosen series, as well as notes with repeating serial number patterns including super solid combinations. The full list of lots will be published on the auction platform before the live session.
Every ringgit note comes with a unique seven-digit serial number. Collectors look for specific patterns within that sequence, with certain notes fetching considerably more than their face value depending on their rarity.
One of the most sought-after types is the low serial number. These are the earliest notes printed in a series, such as DD0000001 to DD0000010. When both the prefix and the number match across that range, for example BB0000001 to BB0000010, they are classified as super low numbers.
Another popular category is repeating numbers. A solid serial number has all digits the same, such as AD8888888. A super solid goes one step further, where both the prefix and the digits are identical, such as QQ8888888.
As with all collectibles, the final price depends on demand, condition, and whether the note you are bidding on is uncirculated.
Registration and online bidding are open throughout the auction period at Best2Bid. You do not need to attend the live session to participate, as bids placed during the online window remain valid.
MNP Auctioneers will conduct the live session at 11am, where final bids for selected lots will be confirmed in real time.
BNM auctions attract both collectors and first-time bidders. Competition for popular serial numbers can push final prices well above face value, so setting a clear budget before bidding opens is sensible, particularly once the live session gets competitive.
Auction fees apply on top of your winning bid, so the amount you end up paying will be higher than the figure on screen. Once a bid is successful, payment is required regardless of whether the note’s market value changes afterward.
These auctions are also one of the few ways to obtain banknotes directly from BNM with verified provenance, which is part of what makes them attractive to serious collectors.
