Bank Negara's Semak Kasih Portal Traces Unclaimed Insurance
Author Avatar

A new portal called Semak Kasih now lets you check for unclaimed insurance and takaful, for free. Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) launched it on 26 June 2026. The portal aims to address a longstanding issue. According to industry estimates, around 50,000 life insurance policies and family takaful certificates with death benefits remain unclaimed.

Semak Kasih pulls together 25 participating insurance and takaful companies, so you search one platform instead of contacting each insurer yourself. Previously, beneficiaries typically had to contact insurers individually to determine whether a policy or certificate existed.

The portal was built by the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) and the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), and sits under BNM’s oversight. It covers life insurance policies and family takaful certificates belonging to someone who has passed away, but not general insurance such as motor or medical coverage.

How To Search For An Unclaimed Policy

To use the Semak Kasih portal, you’ll first need to register an account using your name, MyKad, email, and mobile number. Registration is open to anyone aged 18 and above.

Once registered, you can search by entering the deceased person’s details and uploading a copy of their death certificate issued by the National Registration Department (JPN).

If a matching policy or certificate is found, Semak Kasih will identify the participating insurer or takaful operator involved. Beneficiaries must then contact the company directly to begin the claims process, as claims cannot be submitted through the portal.
