Budget 2023 Now Expected To Be Tabled Earlier, On 7 October 2022

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that Budget 2023 will now be tabled three weeks earlier than originally scheduled, on 7 October 2022. This was revealed in a Cabinet meeting today.

Up until yesterday, the national budget was expected to be presented in Dewan Rakyat on 28 October 2022, with even the Deputy Finance Minister 1, Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah confirming the date. He was quoted as saying that the date is “public knowledge”, and that he had no information of the presentation being brought forward.

With this latest update, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz will be expected to present the national budget after the Dewan begins its next meeting on 3 October 2022. The Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun will also need to be informed so that he, in turn, could notify the Members of Parliament of the new date for the tabling of Budget 2023 (28 days in advance).
