A free anemia screening programme for children aged 7 to 11 is being held in the Klang Valley this September, with a RM150 token payment on offer for those who complete it.
One session has already taken place, with the remaining session happening on 16 September at Dewan Residensi TNB, Kelana Jaya, from 9am to 5pm. The programme is organised by NGO MySKALA, together with Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, the Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya city councils, PELITAWANIS TNB and local community partners.
Children who attend with a parent and complete the screening can receive a RM150 token payment, subject to terms and conditions. Participants also get a lab report along with nutrition and lifestyle recommendations based on their results.
MySKALA chairman Fazrul Nizam Osman said anemia in children can go unnoticed, since affected children may look healthy and active without showing obvious symptoms. Low haemoglobin levels can affect the blood’s ability to carry oxygen around the body, and in some cases may need early follow-up care.
The programme also aims to raise awareness of dengue prevention. As of 3 September, 339 new dengue cases had been recorded nationwide, including 124 in Selangor, according to the official iDengue portal. Fazrul Nizam said severe dengue cases can lead to serious complications such as haemorrhaging and dengue shock syndrome, which can be life-threatening.
If your child does end up needing a dengue vaccine down the line, it’s worth knowing that vaccination costs can now be claimed under income tax relief of up to RM1,000, which was expanded from Budget 2026 to cover any vaccine registered with the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency.

Children aged 7 to 11 can register in advance through the QR code above, or walk in on the day.
Alongside the health screening, the programme includes family-friendly activities such as a mini zoo, a clown performance, and free ice cream, food, drinks and souvenirs for participants.
