Civil servants Grade 56 and below will be receiving a special cash aid of RM300 from the government as a gesture of appreciation, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Additionally, a special RM200 cash aid will be provided to government pensioners, including army veterans (with or without pension).

Announced during the launch of the Ekonomi Madani framework, the prime minister said that this special aid will benefit 1.3 million civil servants, including contract appointments and more than a million pensioners. He also highlighted that these cash aids are only provided as a temporary measure to assist civil servants while the government work on adjusting a better salary structure for them.

“We are committed to restructure the salary of civil servants according to the financial capability of the government,” said Datuk Seri Anwar, adding that the cash aids announced for civil servants and government pensioners will be disbursed in two weeks’ time.

Earlier this month, Datuk Seri Anwar – who is also the Finance Minister – had shared that a proposal will be made for the civil service salary scheme to be improved in stages. He expects to discuss this in the next few weeks with the Chief Secretary of the government, Mohd Zuki Ali, and the director general of the Public Service Department, Zulkapli Mohamed.
