Interim Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Muhamad has announced an incentive for the healthcare industry in its battle against Covid-19 in the Economic Stimulus Package 2020.

Government staff directly involved in the fight against Covid-19 will be given a special allowance as a gesture of appreciation for their hard work. Doctors and all individuals working in the public healthcare industry will be given a special allowance of RM400 per person each month. Those working in the immigration department, on the other hand, will get RM200 per person each month.

The disbursement of these special allowances will begin in February 2020, and continue until the end of the outbreak.

Tun Dr Mahathir also stated that the Ministry of Health will also receive sufficient funding to ensure that the Covid-19 outbreak will be controlled. As of today, the ministry has spent as much as RM150 million to purchase equipment, medication, and other healthcare consumables in its ongoing efforts to contain the outbreak.
