EPF: Application For RM10,000 Special Withdrawal To Start From 1 April

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has said that members can begin applying for the special RM10,000 withdrawal facility that was recently announced starting from 1 April 2022.

“The deadline for application is 30 April 2022, while payment starts on 20 April 2022,” the provident fund further said in a statement, adding that the applications are to be done online. The facility is open to members who are aged below 55 years old.

Additionally, the EPF clarified that members are allowed to withdraw from a minimum of RM50 to a maximum of RM10,000, and the funds will be taken from the balance in their Akaun 2 first. Once that is depleted, then members can access their Akaun 1 savings.

Meanwhile, further details – such as the process and mechanics of the application – will be provided at a later date, said the EPF.

Prime minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had announced the special one-off EPF withdrawal of RM10,000 yesterday, saying that it is aimed at helping Malaysians who are still struggling from economic repercussions brought on by Covid-19. It came following calls from several parties to allow one last withdrawal, although there were also several who pushed back against the idea, citing concerns of old-age poverty.

This special RM10,000 withdrawal is the fourth Covid-19-related withdrawal facility to be rolled out by the EPF, with the earlier ones being i-Lestari, i-Sinar, and i-Citra.
