Patients who collect long-term medication from government health facilities will be able to have it delivered to their door at no charge from 1 October, after the Communications Ministry said it would cover the postal delivery cost through MCMC. Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced the move on 26 September.
Previously, the service cost RM6 per delivery. The ministry has allocated RM5 million for the initiative, which is expected to benefit around 80,000 patients a month nationwide. The service has been running in Johor for several years at a fee, so patients there will see the biggest immediate change.
The postal delivery service is for patients who collect repeat prescriptions at Ministry of Health hospitals and klinik kesihatan, and who have a stable chronic condition on long-term medication. You also need to understand your treatment and have collected your medication at the counter at least once first.
It covers government MOH facilities only. University hospitals such as PPUM, HUKM and HUSM, military hospitals and the National Heart Institute (IJN) are not included.
The service runs through MyUBAT, the Health Ministry’s pharmacy app, available on the App Store and Google Play.
Once you’ve downloaded the app, register an account and link it to your health facility. Then request your medication supply and select the postal delivery option. Your prescription details will be sent to the pharmacy for verification, and you’ll get a notification when the parcel is on its way. You can track the delivery in real time through the app.
You’ll need your patient registration number (MRN), IC number and home address ready when you apply.
If you don’t qualify for postal delivery, MyUBAT offers three other services at participating facilities.
Pharmacy counter appointment: Book a date to collect your medication, so it’s already packed when you arrive and you skip the queue.
Drive-thru or park-and-take: Collect your medication from an outdoor counter or pickup point without going inside.
Medicine locker: Your medication is placed in a secure locker at the facility. Collect it using a key or PIN on your scheduled date, without queuing at the counter.
