The Ministry of Transport will maintain its RM499 ceiling fare subsidy for one-way flight tickets from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that the initiative is designed to keep air travel affordable and accessible, particularly for those travelling between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. He explained that the RM499 cap, which excludes taxes and fees, marks a reduction from the previous RM599 limit.
“The government will cover the difference between the original ticket price and the maximum fare,” he said at the launch of the Hari Raya Fixed Fare Flights by AirAsia.

Loke highlighted that AirAsia’s fixed-fare initiative for Aidilfitri demonstrates how cooperation between the government and the aviation industry benefits the public, particularly during peak travel periods. He reiterated the government’s commitment to making air travel more accessible for Malaysians.
“By working closely with key industry players like AirAsia, we are enhancing connectivity, lowering travel costs, and ultimately improving the well-being of the rakyat,” he said.

On Wednesday, AirAsia announced that it will offer more than 16,000 seats on over 90 late-night flights at fixed fares between Johor Bahru or Kuala Lumpur and destinations in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, for travel between 28 March and 5 April 2025.
AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Captain Fareh Mazputra said these promotional fares, available for booking from Wednesday until 5 April 2025 on airasia.com and the AirAsia MOVE app, will be priced at RM328 one-way between Kuala Lumpur and Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, or Miri, as well as between Johor Bahru and Kuching or Sibu.
Additionally, flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, or Tawau, as well as those between Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu, will be available at a fixed one-way fare of RM388. Fareh also noted that, beyond the 90 late-night flights offered at fixed fares across 10 routes between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia, AirAsia will continue operating 287 weekly flights at regular fares to these destinations as part of the government’s festive season initiative.
