Johor Haj Pilgrims To Receive RM300 One-Off Aid This Year
Author Avatar

More than 3,800 haj pilgrims from Johor will each receive a RM300 one-off payment from the state government this year, under a new assistance initiative called Bantuan Kasih Johor.

Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the aid at a meeting with prospective pilgrims at Menara MBJB in Johor Baru on Tuesday. He said the payment was made possible through improved state revenue, and described it as the first time Johor had offered this kind of direct financial support to its haj delegation.

First-Of-Its-Kind Aid For Johor Pilgrims

The RM300 payment is a one-off gesture from the state government, administered through the Johor Islamic Religious Council and the Johor Islamic Religious Department. Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim will also contribute food packs and drinks for members of the delegation.

Departures Begin In Early May

Pilgrims are expected to depart in stages between 7 and 9 May, on four to five flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Jeddah. The state secures a special annual quota of 500 pilgrims through cooperation with Tabung Haji (TH) and the federal government, with transportation costs fully borne by Johor.

State Support Expands Beyond Logistics

Johor has maintained its own state-sponsored haj delegation since 1952, predating the establishment of TH in 1963. The RM300 aid is a new addition to that long-running commitment, funded through the state’s growing revenues.

If you are among the pilgrims departing this season, the payment does not offset the full cost of performing the haj, but it does mark a shift in how Johor is directing its improved finances back to residents.
