Transport Minister Anthony Loke has revealed that Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) Komuter is set to enable support for the open payment system for its commuters in the Klang Valley, starting from mid-November. This means that KTM Komuter passengers will soon be able to use payment methods like credit and debit cards to pay for their rides.
According to the minister, KTMB Komuter has nearly completed the upgrading of the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) ticketing system for all of its stations in the Klang Valley. “KTMB commuters will get to enjoy the new facility when all 57 KTMB Komuter stations in the Klang Valley are equipped with scanning gadget at the gantry which supports the open payment system,” he said, adding that RM29 million had been spent for this upgrade.
In addition to credit and debit cards, as well as the existing Touch ‘n Go (TNG) card payment method, Loke said that commuters can also opt to pay for their rides using the KTM Wallet QR code within the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System (KITS) mobile app. To use this payment method, you’ll need to first top up the in-app KTM Wallet – which you can do using channels like the TNG eWallet and credit or debit cards.
Meanwhile, Rapid KL is set to begin designing and developing the infrastructure for the open payment system of its public transportation services – namely LRT, MRT, and monorail rides – in March 2025. It is expected to be ready by August 2025.
Loke had first announced the implementation of the open payment system for public transportation back in March 2023. He noted then, however, that the process may take some time as operators need to work on integrating the system.
