Maxis Yearly Upgrade: How the Early iPhone Swap Works
Author Avatar

Maxis has introduced a structured option that allows customers to switch to a newer iPhone before completing their existing device instalment term. The Yearly Upgrade Programme works alongside the Zerolution instalment system and provides a pathway to replace an iPhone once a customer has fulfilled the minimum portion of their contract. This article explains how Zerolution functions, how the upgrade applies to new and current customers, and what Maxis requires before a device can be exchanged.

How Zerolution Works

Zerolution is Maxis’ instalment arrangement for devices. Instead of paying the full device price upfront, customers make fixed monthly payments across either twenty-four or thirty-six months. Zerolution 24 completes in two years, while Zerolution 36 completes in three years. Both require customers to remain on a compatible Maxis Postpaid plan throughout the instalment period. The Yearly Upgrade option is built around this structure by allowing an early device swap once the remaining commitment period reaches twelve months or less.

Pricing For The iPhone 17 Series On Zerolution

The iPhone 17 lineup is available on both Zerolution 24 and Zerolution 36 when paired with Maxis Postpaid 139 or a higher-tier plan. The instalment amount varies by model and contract length. Under Zerolution 24, the monthly payment is RM213 for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, RM194 for the iPhone 17 Pro, and RM137 for the iPhone 17. Under Zerolution 36, the instalment is RM137 for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, RM124 for the iPhone 17 Pro, and RM87 for the iPhone 17.

These values exclude applicable taxes and form part of the monthly bill for the duration of the instalment term.

How The Upgrade Applies To New Customers

New customers who want access to the Yearly Upgrade begin by subscribing to Maxis Postpaid 139 or a higher-tier plan and pairing it with an iPhone 17 series device under Zerolution 24 or Zerolution 36. Once the contract progresses to the point where the remaining term is twelve months or less, they may move to a newer iPhone model provided all upgrade requirements are met. This arrangement lets new subscribers enter a predictable yearly replacement cycle without settling their entire instalment plan before switching.

How The Upgrade Applies To Existing Customers

Existing customers become eligible once enough of their Zerolution contract has been completed. For Zerolution 24, eligibility begins after the first twelve months, while Zerolution 36 requires twenty-four months. When the required period is reached, customers may trade in their current iPhone, adjust their plan if necessary, and sign a new Zerolution agreement for an iPhone 17 series device. All steps must be completed on the same day so the upgrade can be applied to the account.

What Happens During Device Inspection

Before Maxis approves an upgrade, the current device must be examined. The iPhone must operate normally, without major defects, and must not have been modified, altered, or exposed to liquid. Significant cracks, severe dents, or signs of internal damage can lead to rejection. The evaluation carried out by Maxis is final. Customers who still want to proceed after a failed inspection may encounter additional charges depending on the condition of the device.

Obligations After Starting A New Contract

Once a customer begins a new Zerolution plan through an upgrade, the associated Maxis Postpaid plan needs to remain active for the entire instalment term. The plan cannot be suspended or downgraded, and neither the device nor the plan can be transferred to another person. Any action that breaks these conditions cancels eligibility for the upgrade arrangement.

Customers who wish to review the full set of legal terms, including Maxis’ service terms and the rules for Zerolution, may find the documents on the Maxis website.
