Motorists travelling along the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS) and the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) may have spotted MyDebit terminals installed at selected toll booths of these highways. This comes as the government continues to make headway in implementing an open payment system at several highways by September.
Some individuals driving along both KESAS and LDP have posted pictures of the terminals on their Twitter accounts; Kiridaren, for example, shared an image of a MyDebit terminal that he spotted on the KESAS highway.
Meanwhile, another Twitter user – Azizul Rahman Ismail – reported that he saw debit card machines installed at LDP tolls:
Based on Kiridaren’s shared image, however, it would appear that although installed, these terminals – which will accept MyDebit, Visa, and Mastercard cards – have not been activated yet. It was also stated that the system is still under trial.
While we are uncertain as to how many of these terminals have been installed at all the selected highways to date, it’s likely that we will see more of them soon as the September deadline draws nearer.
Earlier this year, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi had said that Malaysia is set to implement the open payment system at a total of 12 highways. If successful, motorists travelling along these roads will be allowed to also pay their toll fees using debit and credit cards, instead of being confined solely to payment options tied to Touch ‘n Go (TNG) – such as TNG cards, TNG PayDirect, and RFID. In other words, TNG’s monopoly of the highway toll collection service is expected to come to an end.
Meanwhile, other highways that are also involved in this initiative include the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE), Western Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal Scheme (SPRINT), and New Pantai Expressway (NPE).
