Nintendo has officially launched its eShop and Nintendo Switch Online service in Malaysia, allowing local players to purchase games and subscribe with full RM pricing support for the first time. The launch, effective 18 November 2025, expands local access to Nintendo’s ecosystem across the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch Online is priced at RM13 for one month, RM33 for three months and RM89 for twelve months. The family plan costs RM169 a year and supports up to eight accounts.
Nintendo Switch Online with the Expansion Pack is available as a yearly plan, priced at RM179 for individuals and RM319 for families. Existing subscribers may upgrade at a prorated rate.
With the Malaysian launch, the eShop allows players to purchase digital games, download additional content and access free demos directly through a local account. This provides a more straightforward purchasing experience and removes the need for accounts tied to other regions.
Nintendo Switch Online now gives Malaysian players access to online play for supported titles. Games such as Splatoon 3, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokémon Legends Z-A support online multiplayer using Malaysian accounts. The membership also includes cloud backups for supported titles, a selection of classic games and subscriber-exclusive content.
A Nintendo Switch Online membership includes games from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy and Nintendo Entertainment System. Enhanced features such as Suspend Points and Rewind create a smoother gameplay experience.
The Expansion Pack tier adds titles from the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 64. Nintendo Switch 2 users can also access compatible Nintendo GameCube games through the Expansion Pack.
Nintendo Switch 2 users will have access to GameChat, which supports real-time voice communication and screen sharing. A Nintendo Switch 2 Camera or compatible USB camera is required for video sharing. GameChat is free to use until 31 March 2026, after which an active Nintendo Switch Online membership is required.
Nintendo is also offering a smartphone app that enables users to listen to selected game music. Other benefits include exclusive titles such as Tetris 99 and F-Zero 99, along with access to selected paid downloadable content during the membership period.
Players can subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online by opening the Nintendo eShop on either the Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch Online section provides details on membership plans, included features, in-game events and profile customisation. Subscribers can also access game trials and downloadable content linked to their membership.
The introduction of the Nintendo eShop and Nintendo Switch Online gives Malaysian players fuller access to digital purchases, online features and classic game collections without relying on overseas accounts. With expanded support across both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 platforms, local users can expect a more integrated and convenient gaming experience.
At the same time, the wider availability of gaming subscriptions reflects a broader shift in how entertainment services are paid for. Nintendo Switch Online and the Expansion Pack join a growing list of recurring digital services that many Malaysians now rely on for gaming, streaming and productivity. As subscription-based models become more common, players may benefit from reviewing how these regular commitments fit into their monthly budgets.
